When does a padel tie-break start?
A pair wins a padel set with 6 games and a margin of two games. At 5-5 the pair play on and one pair takes the set 7-5. At 6-6 the pair play a tie-break instead of a seventh game. The tie-break decides the set.
The FIP Rules of Padel allow one exception. A competition may state in advance that the third set has no tie-break. In that case the pair play on at 6-6 until one pair leads by two games.
How do you score a padel tie-break?
The tie-break uses plain numbers, not 15, 30 and 40. The umpire calls zero, 1, 2, 3 and so on. The first pair to reach 7 points wins the tie-break, provided it leads by two points. If the score reaches 6-6, the pair play on until one pair leads by two points.

A set decided by a tie-break always ends 7-6. The point score inside the tie-break does not change the set score.
The tie-break counts as one game in the set. A pair that leads 5-3 inside the tie-break still stands at 6-6 in games until the tie-break ends. This matters for a written record, because the history stores the set as 7-6 and not as the point total.
Who serves in a padel tie-break, and from which side?
The player whose turn it is to serve in the set order serves the first point. That player serves one point only, from the right side of the court. The other pair then serves two consecutive points. After that, each pair serves two consecutive points in turn, and the service order set for the set continues.
The serve moves to the other box after every point, exactly as it does in a normal game.

A serving error does not cancel the points already played. If a player serves out of turn, the correct player serves as soon as somebody finds the error. All earlier points stand.
When do the pairs change ends in a tie-break?
The pairs change ends after every six points of the tie-break. The first change therefore comes at 6 points in total, for example at 4-2 or 3-3. The next change comes at 12 points in total, and so on.
Outside a tie-break the rule is different. Players change ends after the first game, the third game and every later odd game of the set.
An error in the change of ends does not cancel the points already played. The players correct the order as soon as somebody finds the mistake.
Who serves first in the set after the tie-break?
The pair that did not begin serving in the tie-break starts the next set. This keeps the service turn fair across the set boundary. Each pair may also set the order between its two players again at the start of the new set.
What is the deciding match tie-break to 10 points?
The FIP Rules of Padel list alternative methods that shorten a match. Two of them replace the final set with one tie-break. A competition must announce the method before the match starts.

Which time limits apply during a tie-break?
Play stays continuous inside a tie-break. The players change ends without a rest period. The FIP Rules of Padel set these limits.
